‘Start Small’ is what we usually say to people who never start. It is also the best way to get started. An Idea, an interest, a passion; everything needs a start. And if we are bothered about taking it till the end, then we will never see the end if we don’t start. Can we? So let’s start small.
Some people pursue their passion more than others even though they have the same 24 hours in a day. It is true that we all do not have the same kind of thinking and our situations and opportunities are not necessarily the same. But that is not reason to put our passion in the back burner.
What we need is to fast track our passion through a goal based plan that we can manage on ourself.
Passion is an intense emotion, a compelling enthusiasm or desire for something. It is about embracing that inner self that is unsettled when a desire pokes us from inside, it might be music, it could be entrepreneurship, art, movies, creative writing, traveling anything that creates a deep desire in us. The pursuit of which makes you happy. It is about the pursuit and not necessarily the final culmination.
How do we put a passion into practice?
If we ask; some would say they have no passion. While some will say they have way too many and some just turn blank because they have never thought about it. More than not having one it is the lack of effort in discover one. And for those who have more than one passion, it is about narrowing down and picking on one or two and acting on it.
Make a list of everything that you love and next to it write everything you think you are good at and try to equate them; See where you need to focus your efforts on. Take it from there. Build an actionable plan to take your passion forward. Discuss with someone and unlock it and put it to work
Life is too short to not act on what we are passionate about. Start Small; But Start NOW

In the Digital Era, Content is part of you and you are part of the content. From a selfie or just being a bystander in a picture to your targeted blog post or Video channel, you take part, create, consume and promote content on a regular basis.
Now we all know that there are few people who like to stay away from all this. But if you use a Social Media or at least use your phone or laptop to read content you are part of the mix.
Creating Content has become vital in life and career. It has become more and more important for individuals to take part in content creation.
Unlike yesterday, more and more people search your name on Google or Bing Today. Some people in your professional circle may even be confused if they don’t see you on LinkedIn. It is not a rule, but more of an etiquette that you maintain to be reachable and searchable for help and opportunities.
The power of the Pen; is not in the color of the ink it spills; but the power of the word it spells.
While we say it is important to create content, it is also important to have a plan for it. A blog is a great way, but video’s are becoming more and more popular as more eyeballs are hooked on to moving pictures. There are a range of avenues to create content, Blogs, Videos, podcasts, Social Media and so on. Drop a line and let’s chat
Agile Poetry is a unique and creative way to engage teams like never before. At PenPositive we believe everyone can express creatively, and it just needs a start. A Poetry Workshop is not just about writing, it is also about reading, about living and expressing a poem. A one of its kind experience for your team to creatively collaborate and bind. A journey through reading, writing and expressing a poem.
“No! I Can’t” is what we get to hear many times when we talk about Poetry. Well that is why it is important to try and write it. Especially for agile teams who always have to push themselves beyond their comfort zone.
None of the things you do now are things you knew before you learned it or at least try to learn it. Poetry should be no different.
I was not a big fan of poetry as I grew up. In fact I never knew that I would write. I started listening to recitals and spoken word before I had the courage to start writing. No one said I could and so I want to make sure I tell everyone that they can. If I can, then they can.
Poetry helps us understand abstractness. It teaches us that there are more than one way to say things. And that their is a beauty in the way words lay and also in the meaning hidden inside them
It is not just about writing. One would think poetry is just about writing, but it is not. Poetry is about expressing it, giving a life that make people close their eyes and listen. Take them to places they have never been to.
Read it out Loud. When you read a poetry aloud; yours or others the world around you changes magically. It might not sound logical, but just pick a poem and read to someone you love. Or just sit in a room and read it like you mean it. When you read poems out loud, they also start responding back to you. The words talk back inside you. Some linger on in you and make you think. It is a way you connect with the author. If the author is you, it is a way to connect with yourself.
As unique individuals we all understand in a different way. When it comes to life or work we often stand our ground often inflexible to negotiate. But with poetry, we are interested in knowing the other person’s perspective
In the corporate world we all sit in rooms, cubicles and even open spaces to find solutions to problems that make the engines move in the world. What will happen, when we sit in a room and read and write and express Poetry?
Poetry can make us agile, Agile Poetry is what you should try…
This is an online workshop I conceived and intends to address three areas of development among teenagers as they look ahead into their future, education, career and aspirations
As a Parent how do you help your TEEN in using this most important time of their life to the fullest?
Parents often insist kids to read at home daily but when it comes to writing, it is not always insisted. Even when we know that the ability to write well is one of the most important (often coveted) skill they will need in their college and career.
Through projects, writing prompts, webinars, group and individual sessions online we can instill the love for writing. Not just your teen but you can all participate as a family

We all hold stories from our life that we want to tell but not many of us embark on writing them. PenPositive’s Idea of Memoir Publish is to help people in writing and publishing their Memoir. We believe that everyone in this world has a story from their life that the world needs to know and has the power to change.
‘Memoir’ comes from the French Language meaning memory or reminiscence. While Memoir have historically been defined as a subcategory of biography or autobiography since the late 20th century, the genre is differentiated in form, presenting a narrowed focus. A biography or autobiography tells the story “of a life”, while a Memoir often tells “a story from a life”,
At Penpositive we help people to be their own Memoirist And a Memoirist is Someone who authors a Memoir. But we believe you can tell your story better that anyone else.
We all have a story. If not a complete autobiography; we have a story, a piece from our life that is worth telling and something people should know.
Some of the most inspiring stories are from the lives of people whose biography is never written. And for all of us it is important to sometime sit and write about our own life.
Go back in time and etch out elements of life and bring it to life through words. It is an extremely fulfilling experience
If anyone told you that you cannot write a Memoir listen to what Mitch Albom said. Mitch Albom is the Author of one of the top selling Memoir of all times “Tuesday’s with Morrie” He said
“I had a very high-grade publisher tell me I was incapable of writing a memoir.”
Don’t let what people tell you stop you
If someone says that your story is not worth telling then it is because they don’t know you enough. Just your life lived is reason enough that your story is worth telling.
Go on and tell your story Today!!!
The demands and rewards vary considerably across professions. People are unique and so are their situations. It is not surprising when a profession does not always come as a choice. There are times when it is the result of a need to earn a living and the availability of market opportunities.
That said the key to any profession is to make it most rewarding for you at the same time ensuring that the demands do not break you as a person.
Everyone needs to move in their profession. Move up or Move out. What do you think is your next career move?, What are your Learning Goals associated with your Profession?, What is needed for your next role? These are all questions you need to ask yourself often. The career goal for each one of us is to be doing something we can connect with and is rewarding and meaningful to us.
The key is to understand all facets of what and why we do something. Why are we in a job or a profession?
Opportunity is not something always outside your work. It is also something that exists within a profession or a job you do. The question is do you know about it, are you equipped to pursue it and what do you need to work on getting them.
At PenPositive we do not think you are tied to one profession. You can pursue multiple professions to make sure you are able to expand and grow within you. It all starts with sitting down with a paper and listing out and itemizing your career goals.
We all want to enjoy our work and career and be happy. And I believe this is our right to pursue. Let’s work together so we can all Think Big and Redefine your Career Boundaries
One of the fundamental needs in work and life is the ability to be agile. But at a time when so much competing and conflicting priorities bombard at us we are all overwhelmed at times; in personal lives, at work, within the society we live in. Even those people who exhibit extreme calmness, resilience and success in one aspect of life buckle down in others. Why is that?
We live in a world where everything is accelerating. We know how to address change, but now the ‘pace of change’ is accelerating. Balancing in an accelerating world has become a very important Art.
We can’t solve every problem that is out there. But we can take some part of it and build the ability to bring Clarity to it. Fundamental issues like the difficulty in breaking issues into small pieces. The ability to step out of ourselves and look around us; as ‘things to do’ and emotions feel like uncontrollably piling up. To calm down and come up with a plan. To ask questions, retrospect and act. To improve. To find resolve when analysis paralysis creeps in. To not lose sight of what is important.
When I speak of agile in life situations I am particularly interested in one method of agile called Scrum. One specific role of Scrum to be precise – The Scrum Master, who is the orchestrator of the Scrum team.
a Scrum Master is a servant leader who facilitates, coaches and removes impediments so the team can deliver results
I am a Professional Scrum Master and I want people to be the Scrum masters of their life. You might think that we are not a team in our life, but we are. Not one but several teams. Our friends, our family, our colleagues, our society, our associations and so on, these are all our teams. And we should strive to be a Servant leader to them.
Facilitating their interactions, coaching them to be effective, removing impediments for us and them, being there to serve and in that process leading them.
How do you as a Scrum Master imbibe the principles of Agile into your life and family and society? The first step is to understand the principles of Scrum and how it works in other contexts. The next will be to work towards building that Scrum Master mindset which will allow us to serve and coach. You will be surprised that even those who are trained in it have often not developed the mindset.
It is a very simple framework and a journey of improvement and mastery. Let’s chat, Drop a line.
I would like to say Living Life than use the word ‘Happy’ because it (Happiness) means different things for different people and the world is still figuring what it means and it is never going to have a very conclusive answer acceptable to everyone. Though there is some consensus recently when people have said relationships, community and sharing are fundamental to happiness. But for me Living life is more fundamental. Because even if you are not very happy you need to live life.
Enjoying what you do (your work) to make a living, matters a lot and is one of the areas I focus on. But Living life is more fundamental to me. The fundamental level from where springs everything else. Passion, Relationship, Love, caring, sharing, learning, knowledge, experiences and so on. Over the years I did a few things to Live my life.
I scaled down my work life and I scaled down my personal life. I scaled down my expectations and started looking things from a minimalistic angle. I realized that making huge amounts of money quickly and retiring was not something that was going to happen for me. I wanted a life that was rich but minimal.
In 2017 I did a no shopping year where I did not buy a single thing for myself where I did not ask the question ‘Do I really need it’ 5 times and 99.9% of the time I did not need it and did not buy it. the .1% I bought it. But if I had asked a 6th time I could have gotten to 100% may be.
The realization was I did not need anything, and most of what I needed I already have. But there are a few other things I wanted and that did not cost money, but it cost time. And time was Money in the world we live in.
So making more time in life for what I love to do, made my life richer
Health was one area that I started focusing my mind on. Creativity was the next. Learning was the other and so was reading. I read over 50 books in 2017. I started indulging in cooking and found that there is a meditation in cooking. That feel of rawness touching your fingers before a dish is born is pure bliss. I also started a vegetable Garden, but I am not much into that and figured I was not able to keep going with it. But I have not lost hope and will continue to do it.
I learned there was enjoyment in starting something in it, even if you failed accomplishing it
The bottom line is that when I decided to scale down in some areas my life started scaling up in other areas. When I decided to leave my pursuit for more money, my life became more rich. People started asking me ‘where do I have all this time’ to write and read and spend time lazing.
Some of my enjoyment people equate to lazing. For them, if you are not on a thread mill, you are not living. And for me, I for once in my life refused to get on a thread mill going no where. I decided to quit the rat race.
What I make today is not a lot of money, but enough for me. It helps me pay my bills, and it is much more than what many people make and I have nothing but gratitude. I also share a part of it. And for me now finding time is the most important aspect of Living a life.
I am writing this page at 6:30 in the morning with a fresh brewed coffee after half an hour of moderate working out. I still have one hour to spend slowly making my breakfast and eating it and preparing lunch for my son and dropping him at school and heading to work, listening to some podcast. I will be on time for work. And I love going to work for the people I work.
It is important we take time to Live our Life. I would love to hear your thoughts on living life and even happiness in general. Drop me a Line.
Having fun can mean a lot of different things for different people. But my philosophy has been that if we can have fun in a way that costs us least that would be the best. No wonder some of the best fun times we have had is when we are with family and friends chatting and sharing a laughter.
I remember what one of my friend told me a long time ago. He was at that time married new and was struggling as his business not going well. On one of our meetings he said “It is tough but we find fun things to do as Husband and wife”. I asked him what that was and he replied
“We take a platform ticket and go to a railway station and we sit there and take and watch people get out and into trains”
Just so you know this was in India and we needed platform tickets to get to the platform to see off your loved ones. This stuck with me years later and during my work in the San Francisco City and had the one hour commute one way, I used that time to observe people and started writing a series of stories called ‘Transit Reader” where I would write a story about someone before they boarded the train or after they left the train. It was fun for me.
Movies are a fun event for me. I enjoy my drink, and I don’t need a company for that. I know it is not healthy, but I love it, I don’t judge myself. I (used to but) no more enjoy extravagant parties and lavish dine outs. They seem to me very hollow and baseless delivering nothing of value. It might be just me, I am sure many people have fun in extravagant parties.
I love books, not just reading, but even just visiting the library and browsing and even picking books that I never get time to read. I love poetry, I have fun writing. And every now and then I discover a new thing to have fun. The things I have most fun cost the least for me. I have fun going to work because I have a lot of fun with the people I work with.
I think we all need to explore things for fun. I am not much into trekking, but I have seen many people ritually do that and it is also a very cost effective fun thing to do. If we look around us, we can find that fun is not very expensive, unless your fun thing to do is shopping and buying expensive material stuff and eating out in fancy restaurants. Again, may be thats your thing, just that it’s not for me.
If you like to talk more on ideas and concepts on what fun can really be. Drop me a line
